I hate drum solos.

I don’t care if whether its rock and roll or jazz, I hate drum solos. Nothing is more annoying than listening to some fine jazz and then this boring caucophonous five minute drum solo happens, which sounds nothing like the song it’s in the middle of. I understand that its all about improvisation, rhythm, play, fun, virtuosity, etc. But the effect is something disjoined and pointless.

I guess I’m not a huge fan of any true solo — even guitar solos if they really feel gratuitous. But usually the section of classic rock songs known as guitar solos usually have the full backing of the whole band. It’s not just the one instrument, and the music usually is in keeping with the feel of the song.

It’s like you’re listening to Beethoven, but then we have to break for a 15 minute kazoo solo. And everyone just accepts that with a straight face.

“Fine kazoo solo, really fine.” Clap, clap, clap.
