Gold Hits of 72! September 3, 2006
Posted by admin in : Music , trackbackDoes anyone remember back in the 70s when those music compilation albums were sold on TV, like “Summer of 72” or whatever? I bought several of those, and at the time I did not comprehend that the songs were not by the original artists, but these fake imitations. I realized it while still owning and listening to the records, but much later, perhaps as late as high school (later 70s).
Of course those have vanished, and searching google by keyword is almost useless. Why were such monstrosities produced? They were very dishonest, because it seemed like you were buying a compilation of the original artists work, but instead every song was by the same bland studio artists. I was of course, like most suckers I’m sure, too dumb and undiscriminating to tell the difference, besides a vague feeling of disappointment (which eventually became my usual response to consumer spending, but that’s another story). It would be like buying what you think is a greatest hits of 2006 album and hearing this Osmondy-sounding group do a Strokes song.
