Old Timey Christmas Villages of the Future December 30, 2006
Posted by Phineas in : Irrelevant , trackbackSo I go visit the folks for Christmas, and they have the obligatory Old Timey Main Street USA Christmas Village decoration set up on the buffet in the living room, with your little stores and your little houses and little Victorian carollers and fake snow and all that pseudo-nostaligic false memory of Christmases we never had.
I’d like to see something a little more contemporary.
I’d like a little set that’s got little McMansions on cul-de-sacs, decorated for Christmas with little Santa and reindeer lights on the rooftops, little inflatable Frosty the snowmans in the front yards, little SUVs in the driveway, with nearby freeway on-ramps, little Ipod-wearing kids on skateboards, little SUVs in the driveway, little box stores like Best Buy and Barnses and Noble at the little mall. Throw in the suburbanites in Victorian garb going carolling for good measure. One house could have a peace sign on the wall and little neighbor figurines could be arguing over it. Inside the houses folks could be seen gathered around the big screen TVs.
You might think I’m joking but I’ve never been more serious about anything in my life.
